Masked robbers vandalized Hura island council office and stole over MVR 200,00 from the council's safe late Thursday night.
Police media official confirmed the robbery to Sun Online today.
Hura council president Easa Ahmed said the robbers, around 3:15 a.m., sneaked up on the security guard, gave him an electric shock to incapacitate him and tied him up before breaking into the office.
“About 6 masked men electrified him and taped his mouth, tied his hands with cable ties. He was left abandoned inside the council’s conference room,” Easa said.
The robbers cleared the money inside safe and vandalized the secretariat's rooms. The large quantity of money was kept in the safe to pay the month’s salary and electric bills, council president Easa said.
No arrests have been made and police are investigating the case, according to the police media official who spoke to Sun Online today.
