Judicial Service Commission's (JSC) announcement to fill 27 magistrate vacancies in atoll courts produced a single eligible candidate, the commission has said.
This was revealed at an official event to appoint Noonu Fohdhoo Ahmed Saeed Ali as the chief magistrate of Noonu Velidhoo court today.
JSC Media Coordinator Hassan Zaheen told Sun Online that the commission received 12 applications and that a single applicant - from a pool of 6 who were interviewed - passed the commission's review. JSC made the announcement for fresh magistrates on 13 March 2014.
Speaking at the appointment event, JSC President Adam Mohamed said the commission needs support in improving the standard of judges, and called on all judges to uphold the integrity of the courts and adhere to the principles of Islam in their verdicts and decisions.
