Former Home and Finance Minister Mohamed Shihab, former Home Minister Hassan Afeef, and former Youth Minister Hassan Latheef have allegedly been attacked last night while walking on the street.
The incident took place while they were on their way home late last night, after a function of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) held at Carnival.
A Police Media Official said today that former Home Minister Mohamed Shihab and his wife were confronted while they were walking on the street, and Shihab was punched and wounded in the face. The Police are investigating the case; no arrests have been made so far.
Latheef said that a group approached him and his wife on the street, and hit him on the back. He believes that they hit him with their fists.
“I am informed that all three of us, including Afeef, were attacked last night. I don’t know how much they are injured, we were not together at the time,” Latheef said.
Efforts to contact Shihab and Afeef have not yet been successful.
This incident took place about 1.5 hours after a group forced entry into the home of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Council Member Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem), attacked him and damaged several items in the house.
