Civil Service Commission (CSC), made up of five members, has received nine applications for one vacant position of CSC member.
The position has been vacant since CSC member Abdulla Jihad was appointed Finance Minister. The position was opened for application by Parliament Office for one week from 19 March.
The applicants are Former member of CSC and Deputy Director General of Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Zakariyya Hussain of Hulhumale’ flat G-62-01; Director of Elections Commission Shereena Abdul Samad of Sunny land, S. Feydhoo; Former Deputy Minister of Finance Mohamed Amir of Ma. Victory; Former State Minister for Medhu Dhekunu Province Ahmed Mujthaba of M. Seawall; Suprindent of Ministry of Education Jameela Ali Khalid of H. White diamond; Former State Minister for Mathi Uthuru Province Mohamed Hunaif of V. Randhi; Director General of Male’ City Council Hinna Khalid of H. Valhufehi; Former CEO of IGMH Zubair Mohamed of Irudheymaage, Ha. Kelaa; and Abdulla Shinah of M. Bilaaluge.
The names are arranged and investigated by the independent institutions committee. The committee will interview the applicants and submit reports to the Parliament for further investigation. Members of the Parliament will then vote to choose a member for CSC.
Besides having the competence to carry out the responsibilities of the CSC, members of CSC should also fulfil certain prerequisites. Article 12 of Civil Service Act require members of CSC to be Maldivian citizens, Muslims, of sound mind, and 30 years old. They must not have during the past 5 years been convicted of an offence for which a hadd is prescribed in Islam and that of a criminal offence; they must not be a person holding an elected position under the Constitution or any Law of the Republic of Maldives; they must not be engaged in any other employment; and they must have served in the government or with a private party for a period of minimum 10 years in the management field upon completion of first degree.
