Police commence operation in Kulhudhuffushi due to increase in crimes

Police have commenced a special operation in Kulhudhuffushi due to increase in crimes such as theft, snatching and drugs.

Police said that the operation commenced last Sunday and is conducted by Kulhudhuffushi Police Station.

Of the people checked, Police arrested a man from Karankaage on Monday, suspected of theft. The man has a record of theft and drug-related crimes. Police checked his home and found several items suspected to have been stolen. These items are now under Police supervision; the Police however did not reveal the nature of these items.

Police also arrested another man on Monday afternoon, suspected of having stolen from Raalhufonu shop in Kulhudhuffushi on 22 March. Police searched his home following a court warrant, and six gold necklaces, one silver traditional Maldivian chain (fattarubai), two necklace pendants, and one pair of earrings were found in his bedroom. These items are now under Police supervision.

On Tuesday, two people aged 25 were arrested for the possession of drugs. They both have record of theft, snatching and drug-related crimes. Police found eight packets containing a substance suspected to be drugs from the area they were arrested.

Police also stopped and towed a speeding motorcycle on Bandaara magu in Kulhudhuffushi on Monday.
