Detention extended for 14 arrested in Anbaraa

Criminal Court has extended detention for 14 people and released 21 people arrested in Vaavu Anbaraa on suspicion of using drugs and alcohol.

44 out of the 79 suspects were released yesterday, and the remaining 35 suspects excluding the minor, who is under house arrest, were taken to court for detention period hearings this evening.

Police said that suspects whose detention periods were extended include two women.

The detention period of the girl under 18 who is under house arrest has not yet expired.

Criminal Court said that it has ordered the police to keep the suspects in detention for a period between 5 to 10 days. Their detention was first extended on 19 April.

Police have said that all 79 suspects arrested in Anbaraa tested positive for drugs. Police also seized more than MVR 100,000 and large quantities of drugs from the island.
