Male’ City Council has said that half the buildings in Male’ are constructed in violation of regulations, which has become a serious problem for the council.
Chief Architect of Male’ City Council Abdul Mueed Hassan said this while speaking at a press conference at the council this afternoon.
“This has become a serious problem. About 50 percent of buildings for which permission has been sought from City Council, has been constructed in violation of regulations. Male’ is congested, and people don’t bother to follow regulations. They want housing,” he said.
Mueed said that one of the most common problems is building heights exceeding the limit.
Deputy Mayor of Male’ City Council Shifa Mohamed said that there are height restrictions for buildings located behind buildings on main roads, and discussions are ongoing in the council to find solutions for difficulties faced by owners of these buildings.
