Eydhafushi land reclamation project begins

The land reclamation project in Baa Eydhafushi has begun today.

Eydhafushi, which has a population of over 3,000, will have 25 hectares reclaimed under this project carried out by Dutch company Boskalis. The current size of the island is 32 hectares.

Boskalis has been commissioned to complete the project within 21 days.

Eydhafushi Council Vice President Mohamed Naureef said that land has not been issued for housing from the island since 1989, and 350 islands are in need of housing.

Boskalis completed last week a land reclamation project in Dhaalu Meedhoo.
