The Magistrate Court in Gaafu Alifu Kondey has ordered to freeze the bank accounts of the island’s Council after the Council failed to comply with a court order.
An official of Kondey Magistrate Court told Sun Online today that Bank of Maldives (BML) was ordered by the Magistrate Court last week, to freeze all accounts of Kondey Council.
He said that the court had ruled that the Council had committed contempt of court after it failed to pay MVR 4,000 to Hassan Ismail of Feyzumaage, Kondey, as per a previous court order.
There are presently no members in Kondey Council, as the Local Council Election for Kondey held in January was annulled by High Court in relation to a case filed by Ali Ibrahim, a candidate who ran for a seat in the Council.
