Committee approves Rukshana for PIC membership

Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has approved Aminath Rukshana Ibrahim to be proposed to the parliament floor, as the new member to the Police Integrity Commission (PIC).

Rukshana scored 75 points in the committee review and was approved by the committee on 3 April. Parliament will vote on the nomination at its sitting tomorrow (Monday).

The PIC seat was left vacant after the commission’s President Shahindha Ismail resigned over disagreements with the commission’s majority on 7 October 2012. The commission has a total of 5 members.

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik forwarded Rukshana's name for parliament approval on 18 July last year.
