PG files case against Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed

Prosecutor General’s Office has today filed a case with the Criminal Court against Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed over a report by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) accusing the judge of illegally collecting mobile phone allowances from the State.

It is unclear if the Criminal Court will accept the case. The Criminal Court has recently rejected a number of cases filed by the Prosecutor General’s Office, stating that the office does not have the authority to file cases in the absence of a Prosecutor General.

Prosecutor General’s Office has informed the judicial oversight body, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), of the case against the Supreme Court judge. JSC is yet to comment on the matter.
