Hearing cancelled as MP Jabir declared unfit to attend court

Court hearing today for Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir, who has been indicted for the possession of alcohol following his arrest from Haa Dhaalu Hondaidhoo in November 2012, has been cancelled.

Alcohol and drug charges have also been raised against Henveyru-south MP Hamid Abdul Gafoor and Manager of Alidhoo Resort Jadulla Jameel, who were arrested, along with MP Jabir, from the uninhabited island on the north of Maldives.

Doctors have stated that MP Jabir is unfit to attend court. He was admitted for breathing difficulties at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Tuesday. MP Jabir is currently serving a one year prison sentence for refusing to provide urine samples over the same incident.

Jadulla Jameel did not attend court today after the court failed to hand over his summons. MP Hamid Abdul Gafoor was presented to the court under police custody, but the hearing was re-scheduled for 22 April due to the absence of the remaining defendants.

MP Hamid, MP Jabir and Jadulla Jameel, along with several others, were arrest from Haa Dhaalu Hondaidhoo on 16 November 2012.
