Impartial investigation not possible without suspending Judge Ali Hameed: Bar Association

Maldives Bar Association, a non-governmental organization representing local lawyers, has said that it would not be possible for Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to conduct an impartial investigation into the case related to Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed Mohamed, without suspending him.

Judge Ali Hameed has been accused of sexual misconduct following the leak of several sex tapes.

Maldives Bar Association said in a statement issued today, “As the Judicial Service Commission investigates the case related to Judge Ali Hameed, this association is of the opinion that it would not be possible to conduct an impartial investigation and deliver justice without suspending the judge.”

Bar Association further said that having a judge whose integrity is in question preside over cases in court, is not acceptable in the Islamic justice system.

The association noted that the case requesting Judge Ali Hameed’s suspension was filed to JSC four months ago; and called on the commission to expedite taking action in relation to this matter to uphold the dignity of the justice system.
