Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has introduced 9 additional posts to its branches, ahead of the party's 4th national congress.
MDP’s election committee media liaison Ali Niyaz said the new posts were introduced in line with the new constituencies added to parliament. The party’s internal election, scheduled for 25 April, will see members elected to posts in 22 branches.
“The party has notified its branches to reorganize and inform the party accordingly. The 22nd will also see election for vacancies in different branches,” Niyaz said.
MDP has also established an elections complaints committee ahead of the internal poll.
Following the party’s failure to gain a majority in the recent parliamentary election, MDP’s national council has called for changes to its leadership and to bring structural changes to improve the party's functioning.
