Newly elected MPs Musthafa and Latheef join PPM

MP-elect for Thimarafushi constituency Mohamed Latheef and MP-elect for Dhidhdhoo Abdul Latheef Mohamed have signed for the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

The two newly elected MPs signed their membership form at an event in Nasandhura Palace Hotel.

Abdul Latheef Mohamed won the Dhidhdhoo seat as an independent candidate, and Musthafa as a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate.

After signing the membership form, Musthafa said that he decided to join PPM because given the few seats won by MDP, it would be impossible to achieve anything for the benefit of the people by working with MDP at the parliament.

He promised to facilitate development for his constituency, and said that several projects will commence soon.

He also praised President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, and said that he is prepared to do everything necessary to defend the present government.

Abdul Latheef said that the people of Dhidhdhoo have always worked with the ruling party, and that he joined PPM to facilitate development for Dhidhdhoo constituency.

Also speaking at the ceremony, President of PPM former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom said that the increase in the number of PPM MPs at the parliament to 37 is a great achievement for the party.

With the two additional members, the government coalition will have 57 seats – a majority of two-third at the 18th parliament.
