Work of the police and judiciary go hand in hand and cases must be expedited by the judiciary to ensure the full benefits of peace, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said.
President Yameen made the statement at a special event in Iskandar Koshi on Sunday night to mark the 81st anniversary of Maldives Police Service. For the police to fully realize their objectives, the judiciary must be efficient in implementing justice, said the President.
“If this fails, no matter how much effort the police make, the people will not get any satisfaction that peace is being maintained in our society,” President Yameen said.
Speaking at the event, President Yameen assured that the government will provide housing for policemen and stand by them in all the necessary circumstances. The government pays a high priority to invest in state of the art technology for police, President Yameen said.
He also called upon the Parliament to pass the legislation necessary for police to better strengthen their work. President Yameen also noted that criticism towards the police is inevitable and that criticism is important for an institution to prosper.
