Independent candidate Abdulla Khaleel has won Nilandhoo seat at the Parliamentary Election 2014 with a three-vote margin, after the votes were recounted today following complaints.
Votes were recounted following a complaint filed by incumbent Nilandhoo MP, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) candidate Abdul Muhsin, after he lost the election by one vote.
The latest preliminary result for Nilandhoo, after the recount, shows that Khaleel received 646 votes while Muhsin received 643 votes.
Results announced earlier showed that Khaleel received 645 votes, while Muhsin received 644 votes.
The number of eligible voters for Nilandhoo was 5,681, and voter turnout was 94 percent.
Muhsin told Sun Online that he does not accept the result and that he is considering pressing charges.
