Elections Commission (EC) has decided to recount the parliamentary ballots for Niladhoo constituency.
The decision follows complaints that true votes were counted as invalid, after independent candidate Abdulla Khaleel won over Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) candidate Abdul Muhsin Hameed with a difference of 1 vote. Abdul Muhsin Hameed received 644 votes and Abdulla Khaleel won 645 votes.
The sealed envelops containing the Niladhoo ballots will be opened at 2:00 p.m. today. EC has announced preliminary results for 84 constituencies, all excluding Nilandhoo.
