President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the construction of a new 100-bed hospital in Hithadhoo, Addu City will be begin this year.
President made the announcement at a Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) event in Hithadhoo last night.
“Construction of a 100-bed hospital in Hithadhoo will also begin, God willing, within this year,” President Yameen said. The new hospital will be funded by aid from a foreign government, he said.
Highlighting the different developmental projects planned for the island, President Yameen said the construction of a new operation theatre in Hithadhoo Regional Hospital has already begun. Funds for the upgrading project have been arranged, he said.
The President said the Hithadhoo sewerage system will be completed within this year and an Islamic Centre will be inaugurated on the island in June, the President said.
“To construct an Islamic Centre in Hithadhoo. This project is on the budget. We have the money. God willing, we will open the Hithadhoo Islamic Centre in June this year,” President Yameen said.
President Yameen departed to Gaafu Alifu Villingili and Addu City on Tuesday, a trip to meet with the people of the two southern islands and observe the progress of developmental projects.
