Maldives government has assured support to achieve a minimum of 30 percent women members in all boards of directors of government companies by 2016, the Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA) said yesterday.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom gave the assurance during a meeting with the CEO of CMDA, revealed the authority. In a move to improve gender diversity in senior management, CMDA amended the Corporate Governance Code on 23 January 2014, to require all government companies to have a minimum 30 percent of women members in their boards of directors by 2016.
Twenty four percent of all participants in senior-level corporate trainings conducted by the authority are women, said CMDA. The relatively high average indicating hope to achieve the 30 percent mark by 2016. More corporate trainings aimed at empowering women will be held in the future, said CMDA.
