Peace cannot be restored without criminal justice system laws: DRP

Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) has sad that peace and order cannot be restored in the country without criminal justice system laws.

Deputy Leader of DRP Ibrahim Shareef said that peace cannot be restored before the evidence law, penal code and other criminal justice laws are passed. He said that the former government had purposefully slowed down this process.

“DRP will push to pass the evidence law, criminal justice system laws and penal code as soon as possible. It is sad that these efforts have been obstructed by MDP members in the committees. Peace and order cannot be restored in this country as long as these laws are missing,” Shareef said.

He said that Nasheed’s administration made no effort to pass the aforementioned laws.

He further accused Nasheed’s administration of creating an environment which encourages crime. Nasheed also released several criminals from prison who now do not hesitate to commit criminal offenses.

DRP also condemned the increased attacks on police and defence forces. Shareef said that these attacks are inflicted for the purpose of intimidation. He urged police and defence forces to remain firm in their services.

“We strongly condemn the crimes conducted against police and defence forces. Our party will accord its full support to police and defence forces. My advice to you is to exercise patience. Don’t let their threats or intimidation get to you. We advise you to remain steadfast in your services,” Shareef said.
