Government will make necessary arrangements to hold election on 22 March: President

President’s Office has said that the government will “expeditiously” do the necessary to hold the Parliamentary Election on 22 March.

President’s Office Spokesperson Muaz Ali said that since the Supreme Court has declared President and Vice President of Elections Commission disqualified as members of Elections Commission, the government will nominate two people to replace them and send those names to the parliament as soon as possible.

Supreme Court ruled earlier today that President of Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeg and Vice President of Elections Commission Ahmed Fayaz have been disqualified as members of Elections Commission, following a contempt case against them initiated by the court itself.

The court also ordered the parliament, Elections Commission, and all relevant state authorities to make the necessary arrangements to hold the Parliamentary Election on 22 March, as earlier announced by the Elections Commission.
