DPG calls for dialogue on religious dissension to prevent terror attacks in Maldives

The Deputy Prosecutor General (DPG) has stressed the need for dialogue regarding dissension between different religious groups in the Maldives to prevent future terrorist attacks in the country.

Speaking at the inauguration of a terrorism investigation training today conducted by Police Institute of Security and Law Enforcement Studies (ISLES), DPG Hussain Shameem said the recent increase in dissension amongst religious groups needs deeper discussion.

“We have witnessed acts of terrorism in the Maldives because we failed to have appropriate dialogues [regarding religious dissension]. There are signs that this could happen again. We have to think about this more deeply,” Shameem said.

He hopes to see the police and the Prosecutor General’s Office benefit from the new training, the DPG said. The terrorism investigation training, titled Investigating Terrorist Incidents, is participated by 20 police offices.
