Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said that poor practices that might lead to an outbreak of HIV infections are on an increase in the Maldives.
“Although Maldives is amongst the countries with a few number of HIV positive cases, there has been an increase in unsafe practices amongst a large population in the Maldivian society, that might lead to an increase in HIV infections,” read a statement by the HPA today.
The agency also advised all individuals to seek blood tests if they engage in unsafe practices and are open to HIV infections.
“HIV tests can be performed unanimously,” said the agency, and noted the availability of modern HIV medication in the Maldives. Medical expenses for all HIV positive patients are handled by the State, also noted the agency.
