Maldives, Saudi Arabia agree on combating sea piracy

Maldives and Saudi Arabia have agreed on security cooperation in the fields of combating sea piracy, drug trading and money laundering.

This was revealed in a joint statement issued on the occasion of the visit of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to the Maldives.

“The two parties emphasized the importance of the cooperation between the two countries through the Organization of Islamic Cooperation; and the fact that Islam is the religion of the moderation, tolerance and middle path.

“Also, the two parties emphasized their commitment to fight against extremism and terrorism in all its forms and shapes as well as the importance of the security cooperation between the two countries in the fields of sea piracy and combating drugs trading and money laundering,” the statement read.

The statement also revealed that officials also held diplomatic talks on the economic relationships between the two countries and the ways of developing them to achieve common interests.

According to reports, the Crown Prince will retire on a private holiday in the Maldives, after the official proceedings conclude. The Crown Prince arrived in the Maldives on Friday.
