Former President Mohamed Nasheed has departed to Sri Lanka this morning.
This is Nasheed’s first trip abroad since his resignation.
Nasheed was accompanied by MDP Interim Chairperson Reeko Moosa Manik, MDP Parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Hithadhoo Uthuru MP Mohamed Aslam and some cabinet members of Nasheed’s administration.
MDP said that the purpose of Nasheed’s trip is to provide information regarding the transfer of power to the international community. Foreign Minister during Nasheed’s administration Ahmed Naseem is also currently in Sri Lanka.
Immediately after his resignation, Nasheed was not allowed to depart the country. His passport was however released after some time.
