President, two former presidents attend campaign event

President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and former President Dr Mohamed Waheed have attended an event held to launch the campaign for Ahmed Rasheed for the parliamentary election.

Former President Gayoom said that it was notable that the event was attended by three presidents.

“As I was sitting there, I was thinking, I hope we get to see more days like this, when all former presidents are present in one place, discuss issues, and serve the country.”

Former President Waheed also spoke at this event, for the first time since he stepped down as president.

He said that the present parliament has attempted to obstruct the implementation of procedures that are required by law, and urged people to bear this in mind when electing the new parliament.

President Yameen did not speak at the event, due to lack of time.
