Department of Immigration and Emigration has said that more than 3,000 illegal foreign workers have been repatriated over the past two months.
They were among the 5,124 workers who registered in the two amnesty programs introduced by the department between 23 December and 31 January 2014.
Immigration Department has said that illegal foreign workers who wish to return to their home countries can do so at their own cost, without any penalty.
It was included in the department’s targets for the first 100 days of the new government, to reduce the number of foreign workers from 40,000 to 5,000.
Immigration Department has also set up a policy and a committee on strengthening procedures related to foreign workers.
