Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Shahid has informed Judicial Service Commission (JSC) that Bilehdhoo MP Ahmed Hamza has lost his seat at JSC.
The parliament said on its website today, “The parliament has been officially notified by Elections Commission that he [MP Hamza] has applied to contest in the Parliamentary Election; thus, as per the JSC Act, Speaker of Parliament has informed JSC that he [MP Hamza] has lost his seat at JSC.”
JSC has also confirmed that it has been informed by the parliament of MP Hamza’s loss of seat.
Earlier, when it was announced by JSC President Adam Mohamed Abdulla that MP Hamza had lost his JSC seat, Hamza responded by saying that based on relevant laws, he was still a member of JSC.
Article 10 (b) of the JSC Act states that the post of a member of JSC shall be deemed vacant in the event that the member contests for a political post elected under the Constitution or a Law; while Article 14 of the same Act states that a member of JSC may only be removed from office by the appointer.
