Abdulla Muaz has lost his post of President of Maldives Media Council (MMC), after the council declared that the due process was not followed in the election of Muaz as the council’s new president.
Muaz was elected with six votes in favour at a meeting of the council held last Wednesday. He contested against Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeg and Midhath Adam.
At a meeting held today, MMC members decided to allow 72 hours before the election of a new president.
A member of MMC told Sun Online that the council decided to revoke its decision because one of the candidates was nominated for the post of MMC president while he was abroad, and this candidate was given neither the opportunity to campaign nor the 72 hours’ notice as required by the regulation.
Three presidents have been elected to MMC so far; Muaz Abdulla, Husham Mohamed and Ibrahim Khaleel.
