An audio has been leaked, where Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) President Dr Ibrahim Didi is heard saying that the current government of President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik is not a military dictatorship.
Didi says in the audio clip that the people in power currently are not military personnel. He says that some people say that the current government is a military dictatorship perhaps because police and military allegedly conducted a coup to change the government.
“Maybe it is because people are saying too much that it was a coup by military and police. Questions are raised because too much focus is put on that. But I don’t think that’s the case. We see in other countries, if a military coup is conducted, a military government would come into power,” Didi said.
Didi says that the current government is a unity government run by political leaders, and it shows no signs of being a military dictatorship.
At the beginning of the audio clip, Didi is heard saying that the current government should be cooperated with in something; however, it is not clear what he was talking about.
It is clear that Dr Didi was answering questions posed by someone; however the audio is edited such that no questions are heard.
