Following the Primaries of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) held on Saturday, the party’s Thimarafushi ticket has been confirmed to sitting Thimarafushi MP Ahmed Shareef, and Thulusdhoo ticket has been confirmed to lawyer Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Waddey).
Shareef’s opponent in the Primary Aishath Shibana gained 25 votes, while Shareef won with a whopping 235 votes.
Waheed won the Primary for Thulusdhoo against Deputy Minister of Youth Naif Shaukath and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aishath Inaya, who gained 234 and 27 votes respectively.
Fuvahmulah Medhu ticket was won by Fuvahmulah Atoll Council President Ali Fazad, who received 122 votes. He contested against two candidates including Kaafu Atoll Council President Ahmed Saeed.
Fuvahmulah South ticket was confirmed to sitting MP Abdulla Maseeh without a Primary, as there were no other candidates.
Primaries for remaining Fuvahmulah constituencies will be held today at 4:00 p.m.
Hinnavaru Primary was won by Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim with 250 votes. His opponent Hussain Ismail received 5 votes.
Gaafu Alifu Gemanafushi Primary was won by Jameel Usman from Gaafu Alifu Kanduhulhudhoo. His opponents were Ahmed Hassan Manik (Sheesha Ahmed) and Mohamed Nazil.
Four candidates contested in the Primary for Dhaandhoo, which was won by Ahmed Assad.
Vilingili Primary was won by Vilingili Council President Saud Hussain, who contested against two candidates.
Hithadhoo Medhu Primary was won by Chairman of Allied Insurance Hiyalee Mohamed Rasheed, who contested against sitting Hithadhoo Medhu MP Mohamed Rasheed (Matrix Mode).
Hithadhoo North Primary was won by former Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Sergeant Ali Ibrahim, who contested against four candidates.
Hulhudhoo Primary was won, against one other candidate, by Mohamed Shahid.
Feydhoo Primary has been scheduled for 4:00 p.m. today.
Following yesterday’s election, PPM has announced the results for all Male’ constituencies.
PPM candidates will contest for 50 constituencies in the Parliamentary Election, and candidates have now been confirmed for 25 constituencies.
The party has forgone Primaries and granted tickets to 17 candidates, including 13 sitting MPs.
