Authorities find missing diver dead after five-day search

Local SCUBA diver, 41-year-old Mohamed Jameel who went missing after descending near the south-western corner of Vilimale’ has been found dead today, five days after he was reported missing.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) revealed that Jameel’s body was discovered 328 feet below the surface. However, MNDF did not provide details, or the distance the body had drifted before it was discovered.

“MNDF Coast Guard is in consultation with local and international experts due to the large difficulties in retrieving the body from such depths,” MNDF said in a statement released today.

Mohamed Jameel was reported missing to the police around 9:20 a.m on Tuesday morning. The local diver was accompanied by three other individuals during the dive.
