Elections Commission (EC) has opened re-registration for election of 6 councils to be held on 15 February. Re-registration is necessary for voters who wish to cast their ballots away from their permanent addresses.
EC said in a statement today that the commission will accept re-registration forms from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday. Voters can only re-register to the their native islands and the capital Male’, EC said.
Gaafu Alif Atoll council election for Vilingili island was postponed following a Supreme Court ruling to re-instate a rejected candidate. Noonu Milandhoo election results were annulled over complaints of the use of disappearing ink during the Local Council Election.
Elections for Noonu Miladhoo, Haa Alif Muraidhoo, Raa Maakurathu, Baa Fehendhoo and Gaafu Alif Kondey are being held after two or more candidates were tied in the last Local Council Election held on 18 January.
