Detention of MP stabbing suspects extended by 10 days

Court has allowed authorities an additional 10 days to detain Mohamed Sameeh and Mohamed Naseem, the two individuals were arrested on Saturday 1 February for the stabbing of Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy.

A third individual was also arrested for the stabbing but was not produced before the court to extend his detention. He has been identified as the brother of Hussain Humaam, the young man who was recently convicted for the murder of famous religious scholar and MP Dr Afrasheem Ali.

MP Alhan Fahmy gave a statement to the police before being flown-off to Sri Lanka for emergency treatment on Saturday night. The MP was stabbed around 9:00 p.m. while seated in Breakwater, a restaurant in Artificial Beach, Male’.

The case is being investigated by the Serious and Organized Crime Department of the Maldives Police Service.
