MDP

Elections Commission has condemned the actions of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), indicating that they are in violation of political party regulations.

They said in a statement released today that ever since political parties were formed in the Maldives in 2005, political activities have been conducted outside the limits of the political party regulations; and of late, such activities have increased.

The Commission, which acts as a guardian of political parties, expressed deep concern over the degradation of society as a result of these activities. They advised MDP to resolve political differences through peaceful discussion within the limits of the constitution and laws.

They advised and urged all political parties to keep their political activities peaceful and to refrain from illegal practices. They urged people to not sacrifice the country’s reputation for the sake of their individual needs.

Fifteen political parties are registered at Elections Commission.
