Elections Commission has said that police have started investigations into the alleged use of fading ink in Noonu Manadhoo during the Local Council Election.
Speaking to the press today, Elections Commission member Ali Mohamed Manik said they have received complaints of the use of fading ink in Noonu Milandhoo during the 18 January council election.
Voting was disrupted shortly after polling began in Manadhoo over complaints that a pen with fading ink was placed inside the polling booth.The pen was soon replaced and voting resumed.
“It has been suspected that pens [with fading ink] were used. Our officials took note and reported this to the police. Voters also complained of ink fading once they ticked the ballot,” Manik said.
Elections Commission has annulled the results for Noonu Manadhoo council. The election will be restaged on 15 February.
