Committee to interview Maumoon Hameed this afternoon

Independent Institutions Committee has decided to interview Maumoon Hameed, who has been nominated by the president to be appointed as Prosecutor General (PG), this afternoon.

During its meeting this afternoon, the committee will also interview the members nominated to the Elections Commission (EC) and a member nominated to the Police Integrity Commission (PIC).

The Parliament Secretariat has said that the interview with Maumoon Hameed has been scheduled for 2:15 p.m., while the interviews with the members nominated to EC will commence at 2:45 p.m.

The members nominated to EC are former Secretary General of EC Mohamed Tholal, former Director General of EC Ismail Habeeb, and former Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohamed Rishwan.

The member nominated to PIC by the president is Aminath Rukshana, and the committee will interview her at 3:45 p.m.

Majority in Independent Institutions Committee was previously held by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). However, with Chairperson Ahmed Sameer joining Jumhooree Party (JP) today, the ruling coalition now has majority in this committee.

The committee is made up of MDP members Henveyru-South MP Hamid Abdul Gafoor, Thulusdhoo MP Rozaina Adam, Bilehdhoo MP Ahmed Hamza, Ihavandhoo MP Ahmed Abdulla, and Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed; and ruling coalition members Kulhudhuffushi-South MP Mohamed Nasheed, Kanditheem MP Mohamed Hussain, Hanimaadhoo MP Mohamed Mujthaz, Guraidhoo MP Ibrahim Riza, Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed, and Dhidhdhoo MP Ahmed Sameer.
