MP Jabir apologises to MDP members

Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir has apologised to the members of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), in relation to voting against the party’s whip line at the parliament on the issue of approving cabinet ministers.

MP Jabir’s apology came in a letter sent to MDP today, in which he admitted that he voted against the whip line issued by MDP Parliamentary Group on approving ministers on 30 December 2013, and apologised for his actions to MDP members.

Earlier, action was taken against MP Jabir by the committee set up by MDP to investigate this matter. The MDP ticket given to him to run for parliamentary seat without a primary was revoked, and he was also dismissed from elected posts within MDP.

The committee said that MP Jabir will be allowed to participate in the primary if he apologised before the end of January 2014.

MP Jabir has said that he will win the MDP ticket to run for Kaashidhoo seat in the Parliamentary Election scheduled for March 2014.

Other MPs who voted against the whip line, Gadhdhoo MP Zahir Adam and Maafannu Hulhangu MP Abdulla Abdul Raheem, have been suspended from participating in any elections within MDP for three years; while Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Eesa has also apologised to MDP members.
