Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said he will ask for support from Arab countries to establish an Islamic University in the Maldives. Dr Jameel made the statement before leaving on an official visit to Qatar and Kuwait today.
Speaking to the press, the Vice President said that the purpose of his visit will be to seek an increase in aid from the Arab countries, especially in terms of social support.
“The purpose of our visit to Qatar and Kuwait is to seek their support in maintaining Maldives’ religion and unity, with regard to foreign and other challenges faced by the country.
“We will try to increase the social aid that Arab countries wish to give us, specifically to establish an Islamic University in Maldives,” Dr Jameel said.
During his visit, Dr Jameel said he will discuss ways to infuse a stronger Islamic culture in Maldivian society, and that his delegation will also discuss avenues that will benefit the Maldivian economy.
