Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham has said that construction of Kaafu Dhiffushi school building, that was burnt down during a fire in November last year, will be completed within two weeks.
Education Minister made the statement during a visit to Dhiffushi today to review the construction work. Speaking at a meeting with school officials, PTA members and island councilors, Dr Shiham said she was pleased with the progress and was particularly happy with the community spirit behind the project.
However, as the academic year starts tomorrow, facilities of the new building will have to be managed inside the exiting buildings, the Minister said.
“As school starts tomorrow, Dhiffushi students will also start with all the facilities available to them,” Dr Shiham said.
A fire on 30 November left the school's library, computer laboratory, printing room and two storage rooms completely destroyed. On the same day, Education Ministry assured that the burnt down building will be restored by 14 January, the beginning of the 2014 academic year.
Education Minister also said earlier that the school will start teaching for a single session starting this year. Education Minister Dr Aishath Shiham was accompanied by senior officials of the Education Ministry, during her visit to Dhifffushi today.
