Local journalists' advocacy NGO, Maldives Journalist Association (MJA) has praised the ratification of the Right to Information Act and said that it is an important step against corruption in the Maldives.
In a statement released today, MJA welcomed the RTI Act and thanked President Yameen for its ratification.
“Freedom to acquire and impart knowledge is enshrined in Article 29 of the Maldives Constitution. Right to Information Act is a law that lays out the foundation and principles to practice this freedom. The Association views the Act as an important step against corruption in the Maldives,” the MJA statement read.
MJA said the RTI Act will foster transparency, increase accountability, facilitate good governance and empower the public.
President Abdulla Yameen Ratified the RTI Act on Sunday. The Act will come into force six months from ratification.
