Maldives Police Service has started a program today to inspect and disassembles places suspected of gang activities near and around the Sinamale public housing area, in the capital Male'.
Police Media Official told Sun that complaints of gang related crimes are common from the Sinamale flat residents and that police searches of the area today yielded packets of drugs and four knives. The program is being conducted jointly with Male’ City Council.
Police Drug Enforcement Department also found empty packets thought to have held drugs from Saiboani Goalhi, a narrow alleyway leading from Buruzu Magu near the Sinamale flats.
No one has been arrested over the program, but individuals who arrive at suspected gang activity areas are being searched, police said.
