Drug dealing thief arrested

The police have arrested a man in Noonu Velidhoo on suspicion of drug dealing, and seized large amounts of drugs and stolen items.

A Velidhoo Council Member told Sun Online that Ali Mohamed Manik, 53, of Meyvaage, Noonu Velidhoo, was arrested last night under a court warrant.

The Council Member said that Ali Mohamed Manik has been a drug dealer for many years, and that he often sold drugs via students and young people.

He informed that the police retrieved laptops, CPUs, and mobile phones that had been stolen from houses in the island over three years ago.

The police said that Ali Mohamed Manik’s residence was checked under a court warrant yesterday at 5:00 p.m.

Police found four bullet-sized packets of drugs, one big packet of drugs, and two 500-ml bottles of alcohol.

Police also found stolen items including four footballs, jewellery, electronic equipment, phones, laptops, game consoles, a home theatre system, a projector, fishing rods, doors, equipment used in carpentry, paint, toilet bowls, bathroom basins, anchors, ropes, a gas oven, and knives.

Police thanked the people of Velidhoo for their cooperation in carrying out this operation.
