Man dies after sniffing contents at garage

A man has died at Feydhoo Health Centre, Addu City, while being treated for breathing difficulties after sniffing contents at a garage.

Head of Feydhoo Health Centre Mohamed Ihthisham said that the deceased has been identified as Abdul Sattar Ahmed, 50, Hithahfinivaage, Haa Alifu Hoarafushi.

Ihthisham said that Abdul Sattar went to the Health Centre for breathing difficulties after sniffing contents at a garage.

“Abdul Sattar came to the Health Centre with another person on a motorcycle, walked right in and lay down on a bed in the emergency room. Doctors and nurses attended immediately and started treating him,” said Ihthisham.

Ihthisham cited the doctor who treated Abdul Sattar and said that he died of heart failure, however it was not possible to conclude that the heart failure was caused by him having inhaled anything.

Ihthisham said that a police forensic team is investigating the case.

He said that when Abdul Sattar walked into the hospital, he was not breathing properly and doctors first delivered oxygen but failed to revive his breathing. Doctors then gave him an injection following which he breathed normally for a while, but then died.

Ihthisham added that Abdul Sattar suffers from asthma and uses an inhaler.
