Man falls from sixth storey while trying to flee from police

A man has fallen from the sixth floor of a private residential building in Male’ today while trying to flee from the police.

Police media official said the man attempted to escape after the police entered the sixth floor apartment of G. Youlin with a court order to inspect the premises. He said the 26-year-old man had stepped out of an apartment window and onto an AC outdoor unit, which had given away under him. The man and the unit fell into a narrow space between the two buildings, the media official said.

Eyewitnesses said the man had to be extracted from the space by a Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue team.

Sources said the man is now being treated in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for minor bruises and abrasions.
