New academic year to begin on 14 January

The Ministry of Education has announced the new academic year will begin on 14 January 2014.

The ministry said that Tentative Academic Calendar released earlier stated that the new academic year will begin on 12 January, but the new academic year 2014 for all government schools will begin on 14 January.

The ministry said that all government schools have been informed of this, and that this change was made due to 13 January being a public holiday.

The ministry added that private schools may begin the new academic year on a different date.

This change also means that the Grade 10 second term exam, previously scheduled for 1 – 12 September, will now be held from 31 August to 11 September.
