The Indian government has decided to extend a $25 million credit facility to the Maldives.
Following the official meeting between President Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today, Prime Minister Singh told reporters that discussions also took place during the meeting regarding India supplying petroleum products to the Maldives.
He said that India will cooperate with developmental projects in the Maldives, especially in the areas of health and education.
The prime minister also asked President Yameen to seek solutions to the problems faced by Indian investors in the Maldives, and said that he hopes that the issue related to GMR, the former operator of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, will be settled soon.
Prime Minister Singh also announced that agreements were reached as a result of the talks to strengthen defence and economic cooperation between the two countries.
