Riyaz and Ilham allege attack

Police are investigating a case of Gemanafushi MP Ilham Ahmed and Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed being attacked last night by a group armed with a sharp object.

Riyaz Rasheed said today that an attack was attempted on them while they were waiting outside Tuscaloosa Café around 3.20am last night. He said that four youngsters under the influence of drugs first addressed them in offensive language, then took out a knife and tried to stab them. Security Police then intervened and pulled them aside. The group of four then made their way, shouting, to the MDP gathering area.

“They first shouted at Ilham, then me. Then two of them took knives out of their pockets and came at us, and security Police stopped them. Those two had long hair. All four of them were under the influence of drugs,” Riyaz said.

Police Media Official said that a case regarding assault against two Members of Parliament is under investigation; however no arrests have been made.
