EC to reduce ballot boxes for local council election

Elections Commission (EC) has said that the number of ballot boxes will be reduced for the local council election and 16 stations included in the presidential election have been omitted from the list.

EC said the voters registered to these 16 ballot boxes have been moved to their permanent addresses. They also said that voters registered for in boxes in Vilimale’ and Hulhumale’ have also been moved to the respective constituency boxes in Male’.

The 16 locations that will not receive ballot boxes for the local council election include; New Delhi, Singapore, London, Gaafu Dhaalu Koodoo, Dusit Thani Maldives in Baa Muddhoo, Kureddoo Island Resort, Coco Palm Bodu Hithi, Embudu Village, Fun Island Resort, Vivanta Coral Reef Maldives in Kaafu Henbadhoo, Veligandu Island Resort, Constance Halaveli, Conrad Maldives in Alif Dhaalu Rangili Finolhu, Robinson Club Maldives in Gaafu Alif Funnamaadoo, Jumeirah Dhevanafushi in Gaafu Alif Meradhoo and Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa.

The country's second local council election has been announced for 18 January 2014.
